Heather Beavers
,
RN, FNP-C, MSN

Heather Beavers, FNP-C has over 7 years of medical experience but started her career in business. She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor in Business Administration and Marketing degree back in 2009. She spent several years working with a nationally recognized insurance agency. Although she loved customer service, she wanted to interact with others in a more healing environment. She developed a new interest in disease processes and health promotion where she applied and graduated Cum Laude from Texas A & M University in Corpus Christi with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She began her nursing career in a cardiac step-down intensive care unit. Despite working with some of the best cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons in South Texas, she kept witnessing repeat admissions of her patients. Each time her patients were readmitted, they appeared sicker and sicker. The physicians would prescribe them even more medications to take at home. But for some reason, their symptoms were not controlled. Over the years as an acute care nurse, she became frustrated, and even developed depression. Eventually her health declined, and she gained over 110 pounds! She wanted to take charge of her own health once and for all. She also wanted to find the root cause of illness and was determined to help prevent others from experiencing the negative consequences of polypharmacy and multiple comorbidities. She graduated from Texas State University with a Master of Science: Family Nurse Practitioner degree. She is board certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. As she focused more on her health, she was able to lose over 35 pounds and maintain it with just diet modification alone. She was able to discontinue her blood pressure medication and one of her antidepressants. She soon realized that disease management shouldn’t be primarily focused on medication management. She realized that the mind, body, and spirit should be addressed in order to express change and improve health, physical and mental. She turned her concentration to functional and integrative medicine where she could holistically help her patients with more than just their disease symptoms, but to reverse or prevent diseases and maximize their quality of life. Heather recently joined Westlake Medical Arts in June 2020 and is helping her patients with regeneration and healing through the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. She was trained by one of the most experienced physicians in hyperbaric medicine, Dr. Zayd Ratansi, ND. Heather is also a member and will be working on becoming board certified through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
