Sonia is originally from Ohio where her interest in medicine began in high school when she became a member of "The Future Medical Club" ( an after school club that introduces high school students to the medical sciences). She went on to undergraduate school at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Sonia also had the adventurous pleasure of being a Traveling Nurse for four years where she was assigned to various locations within the US staffing underserved hospitals. In 2000 she moved to DC for a travel nurse assignment at Georgetown University Hospital, and has lived in the area ever since. In 2006, she earned her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing in Geriatric and Adult medicine and graduated from George Mason University with honors of Sigma Theta Tau. After grad school she immediately began to work at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Sonia’s interest in alternative and complimentaty medicine began during her first year in college when sadly, her father became suddenly ill with Stage IV lung cancer and died 3 months later. When traditional medicine failed to offer a curable treatment for this sudden illness, her family looked to other non traditional modalities to help facilitate his healing such as meditation, imagery, herbal medicine, and most importantly the energy work of Therapeutic Touch. He continued his chemo and radiation along side his complimentary therapies and although he was not cured physically, there was a profound change in his spiritual and mental healing. Sonia saw first hand how integrative medicine can help facilitate the healing process of mind, body, and spirit. She later studied Therapeutic Touch and complimentary alternative medicine during her undergraduate studies at Capital and she has continued to treat her patients, family, and friends with TT throughout her career. She studied energy work, meditation practices of TT under the founder and healer Dora Kuntz and Dolores Krieger where she attended many annual week long TT intensive workshops in upstate New York with her Mentor Dr. Debra Shields PHD, BSN, AHN, CCRN.. During her spare time, Sonia is involved in a slew of creative projects including restoring vintage pieces of furniture, being active in outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, & running, but most importantly spending time with her husband and her 3 young children.
