Dr. Nicole Shadid is a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist (MD, ABPN), Board Certified Integrative and Holistic Medicine Physician (ABIHM), as well as a Board Certified Functional Medicine Physician (CFMP, ABAARM, FAAMFM) providing integrative mental healthcare treatment. She is one of the few psychiatrists in the United States that is board certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine and board certified in Functional Medicine. Dr. Shadid is also fellowship-trained and certified in Integrative Psychiatry as a Certified Integrative Psychiatry Physician (CIPP). She practices Mind-Body Medicine using integrative approaches of conventional medications and psychotherapy with complementary holistic methods to improve psychiatric symptoms of depression, anxiety, bipolar and attention/cognition disorders. In addition to medication management, Dr. Shadid's integrative modalities of treatment include Psychotherapy, Nutritional Psychiatry, Herbal Medicine, Hormone Management, Functional Medicine, Meditation and Mindfulness Techniques, Exercise or Yoga Therapy, Biofeedback and Neurofeedback, as well as Stress Management and Relaxation Techniques. She believes traditional psychopharmacology or medication management of psychiatric symptoms can be an important part of the treatment plan, but believes medications alone will neither address nor treat all causes of psychiatric symptoms. Dr. Shadid believes evaluation and treatment of all components, including co-occurring medical conditions, hormone imbalances, diet and nutritional deficiencies, inflammation and autoimmune conditions, gut-brain dysfunction, lifestyle patterns, stress management or coping skills, psychological factors or conflicts, medication effects and drug interactions, and genetic and hereditary components are imperative to address for successful treatment of mental health symptoms. Using integrative and holistic treatment approaches allows us to minimize the number of psychiatric medications needed and/or reduce the dose of medications that patients usually require for mental health or psychiatric symptoms. Dr. Shadid provides individual psychotherapy services and is trained in multiple psychotherapy modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Behavioral Activation Therapy (BAT), Mindfulness Therapy (MT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). She has completed 200 hours of training in Yoga Teacher/Yoga Therapy and is a Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT-200) for mental health treatment. She has conducted many workshops incorporating and teaching mindfulness and meditation practices, breathwork, and yoga techniques for treatment of mental health conditions and stress management purposes. Dr. Shadid has served as Vice-Chairman of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Caucus of Integrative Psychiatry, which serves as a gateway between conventionally-trained psychiatrists and the rapidly growing integrative holistic medical community.
