Dr. Schmelka graduated AOA in 1998 from UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine as both a Merit and Loyalty Scholar, the President of the Medical Student Body, and was the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious Fordham Award for Outstanding Leadership. She trained at a national Top Five program for Emergency Medicine here in Chicago, and has practiced for over twenty years.
